Cataract Crystalens

A poem by Fay

Cataracts, accommodating intraocular lens,
and Crystalens were words not of my knowing,
The Cataracts are READY said the Dr. to whom I was going.

To Dr. Singh and staff I went as quickly as I could arrange,
To set an appointment for a journey for my life to change.

After 4 days of drops I set out for the bright surgery room,
With pleasant voices (I remember) for giving care I assume.

I traveled home with 1 patched eye which was part of the program,
To wait for the next day to be ready for my morning exam.

But to my surprise at nine on that very same night,
I saw WHITE through the patch-that was a wonderful sight.

My husband's beard was not yellowish gray but a soft white,
As well as the bar of soap much to my delight.

The morning came and the patch was gently removed,
To see a new world as my vision was so improved.

It looked like Mr. Clean had white washed with a very large pail,
A yellowish green color had been lifted just as a veil.

Within one week I was putting drops in on my own,
As I was walking a path of a very great unknown.

One foggy morning I closed my left eye to see the silver blue sky,
Then closed my right and looked yellowish green, mean enough to horrify.

From March 13th to April 10th my eyes were not very best of friend,
And varied each day as soon one started to mend.

April 10th it was time for Eye number TWO,
As the procedure now I was comfortable as I had a clue.

April 11th as the patch came off, I was so pleased with the VIEW,
My eyes had finally decided they needed to work together they knew.

As each trip to the Office or to the Hospital I did go,
Everyone was helpful and smiling I just know.

With Everyone, plus my family and friends, who encouraged me each day,
With tears in my eyes I AM BLESSED I can say.
